Calvin and Hobbes

So we cleaned and organized our garage yesterday and I ran across some of our old Calvin and Hobbes books. The boys haven't been able to put them down since. So tonight I decided to flip through one of them and I came upon this page. Strangely it reminds me of two people that I know and love. Even more strangely, it is on the very same page together. How odd. Anyways, Ben and Chara...this is dedicated to you!!!

clairvoyant is NOT a word that can be used on a blog. not only did I have to copy and paste it, I also will need to look it up to make sure I am in the know of it's meaning. Your draining my melon head.

In case some of you want to be as smrt as I am now.....

clair·voy·ant (klâr-voint)
adj.

A person, such as a medium, possessing the supposed power of clairvoyance.

sorta... riley is in preschool 4 days a week and I work 3 of those... Carter goes to the greatest babysitter... it's working out well... and brian will be home for the summer (since he's a school counselor)so i will probably work more!
Riley starts kindergarten in the fall... I am so excited for him!

y'all are off to so cal???
LUCKY YOU!!!! is it spring break??

Chelsea said...

Spring Break is coming up this Monday...we are very excited. WOW...kindergarten huh. The boys are in kindergarten right now. Just so you know...all day is the way to go. It is so much beter for them as far as boys and entering 1st. Good luck.;)

Lisa Darden said...

i so agree with you... i was talking to a friend who was a kindergarten teacher and she said full day is MUCH better... and, our district has made full day the "standard"... the whole choosing a school is what is killing me... there are 3 within 2 miles of us... and that doesn't include the charter school (you have to pay extra for all day)...
choices, choices, choices!
have a great trip!

Lisa, Beyond a tour and orientation.....I suggest you go sit in on a class in each school that you are looking at. You wouldn't beleive the difference. One school the kids were expected to be able to write the abc on their own by the end of the kindergarten school year, while another really focused on reading skills. Since the boys could already write the abc's up and down, I chose the reading school. Jonathan is entering second grade reading after spring break and Cameron just started first grade reading. They are both reading chapter books on their own. I never expected that.
You can see so much more from a sit in....the good and the bad. The schools can't denie you! Good luck with that. Also, we did pick a school that we have to pay for. This was a hard decision because we have to pay double. But all worth it in the end!

See, this is why I am a redneck. Public school is free and if they screw up my kids at least I have someone else to blame! plus if they can't get a job when they are older they can stay home and take care of me while I watch Oprah all day.

Anonymous said...

So wait! your going to Cali? you had better send me a post card! with an in-N-out frie taped to it!

Chelsea said...

Hey funny guy....they do go to public school....you still have to pay if you want your kids to go to all day kindergarten at public schools. Crazy huh....$250 for one kid per month. We had to get my Mom to pay for half.

Lisa Darden said...

one of the schools i was considering is 350 a month...
the district we are in has made full day kindergarten standard... so you only pay if you go to a charter school.
my biggest "thing" is... i want my kids in inclusive classes. charter schools tend not to have many children with special needs. their best friend has down syndrome and i want continue to expose them to opportunities to be compassionate... do i sound crazy??

Ben.. said...

and that is yet another reason we don't have kids

that, and i'm sure if we had a boy it would be just like Calvin

Chelsea said...

Ben....I know right. I can already see some simularities between my boys and Calvin. The boys are a little too clever sometimes. And they are always right...so they think.

Lisa, You are not crazy at all. you can never teach your children too much compassion. And having children with special needs in the same class room as your child is not going to hinder his learning in any way. That is why the hire LRC teachers...that's what my mom does at the boys school. Just remember...you know your child and what he is capable of doing more than any other person!=)

i think i've found a reason to NEVER allow calvin & hobbes in my house!!! Carter doesn't need any help - the boy broke his left wrist and right shoulder last summer... 3 weeks apart and while we were selling our house/moving! Yep, just turned 2 and started breaking bones...

It seems like all of my friends are so intent on charter schools (we have a TON here... do they have 'em in WA???) My fear with charter schools is that my boys won't have the diversity of children with special needs. I work for a non-profit that helps families with children with disabilities and i was talking to a co-worker about teachers... i never thought about it but the teacher has to be GOOD to handle the accommodations and modifications that children with special need require... i think parents who don't have students with special needs don't realize this... i sure didn't! ok, i will now step off my soapbox!

wow I have been busy today look at all these comments.
OK, Ben you need kids, nuff said on that for now but you missin out man!
Lisa, your not as crazy as Chelsea or her cat throwing friends.
C, I don't know what LRC is, remember I am Dumber than I look.
Lisa, if not for your kids for your husband= calvin and hobbes is so funny! at least read them some Patrick McManus stories.
Ben, you need kids, who will get your tools when your under the Bugeye?
C, what about my fry?

Ben.. said...

good call on the tools Keith

I'd like to train my dog to do that, but she is just happy being lazy and sitting near me working on the car

Plus if i had kids to get me tools, it would take at least 6-9 months to teach them the difference between standard and metric, and i don't have that kind of time. Chara wants the car on the side of our house GONE NOW.

she is having a hard time adjusting to our new redneck way of life with cars everywhere. She needs more time to cope with it.

and i'll make sure Chelsea sends you a fry on a postcard.

Wow...I've been too busy to check on you guys. I think I am going to turn my blog page into a "Dear Chelsea" page. I must do this in order to help all of you people (not you lisa) and your crazy minds.
K: I would love to send you a post card.....please give me your address! You can text it to me....you haven't do that in a while!
B: you don't have to have kids if you don't want to. We all need an uncle for our kids that we can send the children down to when we need a break.
L: we do have charter schools and yes I looked at those too. What is important is that you find a school with 20 students or less per class, check out the teacher and how she interacts with the kids (is she fun and exciting, is she not burnt out, is she not brand new...you don't want one of those), and ask the school how many student teachers she will have and how many para educators. A lot I know! Numbers are important...this means that there will be more chance for them to break up into smaller groups multiple times in the day...close to one on one action.
K: LRC: Learning Resource Center. This is what they call a special ed teacher now.

thanks for lookin out for me on the fry.
get another parts car and park it in the front yard that may help her cope with the one on the side.
It's like breaking your finger when you get shot, he takes your mind of the pain of the bullet in your left butt cheek.)

All my dog would do is pee on my tools, at least the kids have diapers on.

Anonymous said...

sending our kids to them, brilliant!!
LRC girl, tks for keeping me in the know. I'll text you our address but only for stalking purposes.

Chelsea said...

Oh and you know that I will K=)

Anonymous said...

hey Neb, ok this is how it's gonna work,,,, convince the wife that she wants kids, she will want to spend lots of time with the little scooters when they are young, thus giving you more time in your garage. now that's brilliant!
This is why I watch Red Green!

Chelsea said...

Yes...have little "scooters" and use them as a "get away and do what ever you want" tool. Are you forgeting that you are using my blog as a form of coming up with sceems to trick the wives into bearing children for you to have alone time. What a shameful thing you have done. I am going to have to have a conversation with your wife about this K. hehehehehehehe

Anonymous said...

FINE!

Chelsea said...

Hey...you don't have to be so hostile....i was just joking friend. smile or something

Chelsea said...

Oh K: I think I forgot to tell you how entertaining you are. I can't wait to read your blogs everyday to see how you are going to make me laugh. You have such a quick witt. And wisdom...you have wisdom coming out of the ying yang. Oh wise one is what I am going to start calling you.

chara said...

ok.. lets be clear on one thing.. this wife will not be having any kids.. as a distraction - or for any other reason..
- now ben could distract me with a puppy.. that would work..

Lisa Darden said...

dang... i feel like i've been gone for days... i need to quit having it email me when someone comments! y'all make me smile!
i am too tired to say anything amazing or funny.... maybe tomorrow!

Anonymous said...

Puppy? You are in luck! Our black lab knocked up the inlaws Yellow lab. they have a bunch of puppies to sell and I'll force them to make you a sweet deal!

Anonymous said...

Chara, you were not supposed to read the part about the kids...forget what you read.

Lisa Darden said...

Chelsea,
thanks for the pointers... i have to get to work on this whole school thing!
are you working???

Chelsea said...

Lisa: I did pharmacy for 7 years and had to quit when brandon was training to be a cop. Now I stay home. I volunteer at the boys school twice a week. I was just hired to be a teachers aid at the boys school for next year....really I just want to be around them. Don't stress out about the school stuff. I feel like I put some fear in you. Really I just wanted to let you know what your options were.

Lisa Darden said...

Chelsea,
no worries... no fear... just reminding me that i need to get my butt in gear and get it done... i appreciate all the input!
have a WONDERFUL trip!

Lisa Darden said...

K: so, say i let the hubby read 'em... then if the hubby happens to leave one out and the little guy gets ahold of it... it is game over! this kid has no sense of fear... did i mention the 2 broken arms in 3 weeks???? and he was still trying to climb things while in a cast/bandage contraption... the last thing he needs to see is Calvin (or anyone) doing something "daredevil"!

Anonymous said...

this is not a problem, Calvin makes Hobbes do the crazy stuff. you'll only have to fear for his teddy bear.
